Spencer Austin will start a unique sporting journey at Grimsby's Blundell Park on Saturday.

Austin, 34, has quit as head of a TV production company to travel the length and breadth of the country writing about his experiences following a variety of clubs.

His odyssey will start with Town's clash against Rochdale and he will follow the Coca-Cola League 2 club until they lose.

He will then follow Grimsby's conquerors and repeat the process until the end of the campaign in May.

Austin - a lifelong Tottenham Hotspur fan - expects to cover at least 20 sides throughout The Football League this season.

And he will record his experiences in a book called The Glory Hunter, which will be published next summer.

Austin said: "I was feeling fed up with everything to do with England last year so I sold up my TV company and went travelling through China and Russia.

"While I was away I watched Spurs' Carling Cup final win over Chelsea and realised I really missed English football.

"So I decided to try and fall back in love with England. I came up with the idea of The Glory Hunter as a way of seeing the country and experiencing football at all levels.

"I drew Grimsby out of a hat so I'll start there. I've packed up all my belongings in four bags and will cart them around the country, depending on who wins the matches I watch.

"The book will be partly about football and hanging out with fans from different clubs, but also about the towns I visit and the cultural differences between different regions."

He added: "I know glory hunting doesn't have a great reputation among real fans and there is a mercenary side to what I'm doing.

"But it's really about having fun and experiencing all the varieties that English football has to offer."
